The description of this Event.

Bushfire research after February 7:  What can we expect and what’s needed?

Taking place on Wednesday 8 July 2009

A Workshop where researchers will set out what they are doing and the outputs agencies can expect; and where agencies can set out their research priorities and identify gaps.

RMIT’s Centre for Risk and Community Safety is organising this workshop in cooperation with the Bushfire CRC, AFAC, the National Consultant for Disaster Recovery, the Climate Change Adaptation Research Network on Emergency Management, The Fenner School for Environment and Society at ANU, and the OESC.

This Workshop is for researchers, fire and emergency service organisations and organisations involved in other aspects of fire risk management and recovery. It will provide:

• an overview of research following the February 7th bushfires with advance notice of potentially useful outputs

• an opportunity for agencies to set out their post-fire research priorities, and

• a framework in which the research community can jointly identify research gaps and desirable research that is not currently underway.

A wide range of research will be presented by researchers both within and outside the Bushfire CRC. The intention is not to present results of current research, but to set out the research questions, timelines and expected outputs. In most cases it will be too early to present results, and some projects cannot be made public until their results are released by the Royal Commission. It is not our purpose to examine the management of the February 7 fires.
