The RMIT Global Cities Research Institute in association with GHD held the first ‘Growing Through Knowing’ workshop in Ho Chi Minh City on Environmental and Social aspects of urban developments in Vietnam, during 10-11 July 2009.
Economic investment and growth are proceeding at a rapid rate in Vietnam with a corresponding strong demand for the expansion of urban infrastructure. Cities such as Ho Chi Minh City are expanding quickly with many new developments emerging. In view of anticipated effects of climate change in this region, there is urgent need to understand the long term aspects of these developments in order to inform the community, developers and government authorities, which can thereby contribute towards such developments planned for the future.
The ‘Growing Through Knowing’ 2009 workshop consisted of a two-day program that included:
- Key scene setting seminars by local and RMIT experts
- Workshop sessions for identifying information gaps for targeted research
- A workshop session on strategies to share information and to establish a network of experts to assist sustainable development in the Mekong and elsewhere in Vietnam
- A workshop session involving RMIT Melbourne students
