  • Nov 20, 2008: ‘Global Cities Community Sustainability Seminar: November at Building 37, Level 5, RMIT City Campus - The Community Sustainability program is pleased to invite you to the final seminar for 2008. Dr Tahmina Rashid, Program Coordinator, International Development, (RMIT GSSSP), will be presenting on the following topic: ‘Women cotton pickers in Pakistan: Poisonous pesticides and issues of community sustainability in Southern Punjab’ Tahmina’s presentation will explore women’s major role in picking cotton in Pakistan. The cotton industry employs over 10% of the total population in farming and related industries, yet the growers remain landless and the poorest in rural Punjab. Women’s cotton picking work leads to serious health problems, like asthma, TB, lung and throat cancer. This paper will also explore the impact of new bio-technologies on improving women's health, productivity and community sustainability. All welcome. Please RSVP to victoria.stead@rmit.edu.au
  • Dec 4, 2008: 'Engagement with the Community' Global Cities Launch at RMIT Capitol Theatre - The Global Cities Research Institute invites researchers, RMIT staff and interested individuals to the 'Engagement with the Community' launch on Thursday, December 4th, Capitol Theatre from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Details of speakers will be announced shortly.
