The role of the Steering Group is to provide advice on Institute Plans, engagement with Schools, research objectives, researcher development, operational/resource linkages, as well as more specifically:

• to provide a point of linkage for bringing new researchers from Schools into the Institute programs;
• to provide a locus for generating cross-School and cross-Portfolio research opportunities, including grants opportunities;
• to provide advice to the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) on the RQF groupings.
  

Membership includes the Deans of Research in the three Portfolios and the Heads of School for the following Schools:
